Oakley Rolls Retail Shops Under Sunglass Iacon Brand…

Oakley, Inc. took a major step in its expansion as a player in the retail landscape back in 2001 when it acquired Iacon, Inc. At the time, the company operated 40 stores under three different retail concepts, focused mostly on the sunbelt region. During the past several years, Oakley has expanded its retail presence to the point where today, the company collectively owns the second largest collection of sunglass specialty stores in the United States with 110 mall-based stores operating under its Iacon subsidiary. Included in the Iacon division are retail shops including Occhiali da Sole, Optica, Sporting Eyes, Sunglass Club, Sunglass Designs, and Sunglass Icon.

Oakley now plans to consolidate five these six different concepts under the Sunglass Iacon brand with the hopes of creating a recognizable brand with a loyal consumer base. The sixth brand, Optica, will be managed by the recently acquired Optical Shop of Aspen retail subsidiary, which caters to consumers of high-end premium prescription eyewear and sunglasses.

The company plans to begin retrofitting stores with new signage immediately and expects to complete the transition within 12-18 months.
