NSSF and SportsOneSource have teamed up to give NSSF members a new way to obtain detailed information on retail sales of specific hunting and target shooting products, according to a statement issued by Jim Cucuruto, NSSF Director, Industry Research & Analysis. The new tool offers granular product-level data for firearms, scopes, ammunition, targets, decoys, apparel and much more. In the statement, NSSF said SportsOneSource's tracking tool would be “particularly helpful” once it is put into operation.

SportsOneSource, an information and data services company that NSSF has worked with on various projects over the last few years, is building a new online retail point-of-sale (POS) reporting system that will be designed by and for manufacturers and retailers in the hunt, fish and outdoor lifestyle industries. SportsOneSource plans to launch the Sportsman’s platform in Spring 2011.

The company currently operates SportScanInfo.com, a top retail POS reporting platform for the sporting goods industry, and OIAVantagePoint.com, the official research site for Outdoor Industry Association, which serves the backpacking, camping and fly fishing markets.

More than 12,000 retail locations and websites-representing nine trade channels-provide weekly data for footwear, apparel, licensed products, hardgoods, and outdoor.

In return for sending in sales data, retailers receive 24/7 access to the SportScanInfo.com system, where they can obtain critical, in-depth and detailed sales data that can revolutionize the way they do business. Custom push reports will also be available to NSSF member companies and retailers. Detailed product level data — by region,
channel, category, SKU, price and gender — is updated weekly and is presented in a very user-friendly and intuitive format; all at no charge to participating retailers.

The new sportsman’s platform exclusively developed for hunting, shooting and fishing products is currently under construction and outdoor retailers have an opportunity to join at the ground level. More than 100 outdoor specialty retailers have already signed on. The combined data from all stores is aggregated by retail channel, so no
individual store data is accessible. Data structure is carefully designed to eliminate any potential exposure of a single retailer’s source data.
