Nike is reported to be investigating a potential data security breach after a hacking group claimed to have compromised the company’s internal network and stolen confidential information.
The group known as WorldLeaks, claims to have lifted 1.4 terabytes (TB) of internal data from Nike and posted samples on its leak site.
A listing seen by The Register shows that WorldLeaks alleges it has stolen 188,347 files from Nike’s systems.
The group published the data with file names that pointed to design and manufacturing workflows rather than to customer databases. Examples include directories labeled “Women’s Sportswear,” “Men’s Sportswear,” “Training Resource – Factory,” and “Garment Making Process,” suggesting the alleged haul centers on product development and production processes.
“We always take consumer privacy and data security very seriously, “Nike said in a media statement. ”We are investigating a potential cybersecurity incident and are actively assessing the situation.”
As reported by SGB Media, Under Armour was targeted recently in a separate attack by a seemingly different ransomware group. The stolen data included names, email addresses, genders, dates of birth, and purchase information, according to TechCrunch.
