Boyd Cycling, the Landrum, SC manufacturer of performance bike wheels, reports that Co-Founder Nicole Johnson has officially moved into the CEO role, accelerating its stateside production of carbon fiber and alloy rims to offer competitively priced alternatives to overseas manufacturing.
Co-Founder Boyd Johnson has shifted full-time to engineering and product development, during “this pivotal time for domestic manufacturing.” With the recent acquisitions of alloy and carbon manufacturing, Boyd Cycling reports that it is the only wheel company worldwide with full manufacturing control of both aluminum and carbon rims.
“For the past 15 years, we’ve been obsessed with building the highest quality wheels. In the past four years, Boyd Cycling has been actively on-shoring production into South Carolina, establishing a cycling ecosystem and developing superior manufacturing methods,” the company said in its most recent investment offering.
The company said, “This leadership move has been years in development and aligns strategically with expanding production stateside.”
“This is a pivotal time for our industry. Bringing production to the U.S. means faster solutions for our partners and more stability in the supply chain. I’m energized by the momentum we’ve built and excited to lead Boyd Cycling into its next chapter,” commented Nicole Johnson.
The company’s U.S. manufacturing foundation was established in 2022 with the launch of Olive Manufacturing Group, enabling domestic aluminum rim production. The production came online in 2023. In 2024, the company advanced its global footprint with the acquisition of Munich Composites, a German carbon rim manufacturer, securing control of carbon fiber automation, patents and intellectual property.
“Our goal is to provide a competitive solution to cycling brands for high-performance, domestically produced carbon fiber and aluminum rims,” said Johnson. “By owning our manufacturing and technology, we’re building something scalable, resilient and future-focused for the industry.”
The company reported that the latest U.S.-produced carbon rim line represents a milestone in its next growth phase, “reducing production vulnerability, shortening lead times, and increasing flexibility for OEM partners.”
With 16 years of profitable operations, deep industry experience, and a reputation for premium performance products, the company said it now expects “vertical integration, global market growth and OEM manufacturing partnerships to be major drivers of future success.”
