Starting Sunday, New York will not charge its 4 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear sold for less than $110, according to the Department of Taxation and Finance.

Currently, the limit is on clothing and footwear up to $55. The exemption on the $110 clothes and shoes will be good through March 31, 2013.

Customers will still pay some sales tax on the items, generally 3 to 4 percent, depending on the county where the purchase is made. Only a few counties have chosen to offer the full exemption, including Madison County (outside of Oneida), Chenango County, Tioga County and New York City.
