Non-profit Soles4Souls and New Balance have joined forces to bring shoes to victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

New Balance will help collect footwear and funds to support Soles4Souls commitment to donate more than 1.3 million pairs of shoes to affected areas. Beginning immediately, customers at most of the 132 New Balance locations across the country will have the opportunity to drop off a gently worn pair of shoes or donate funds for the Haiti relief. All donations will directly support relief efforts.

“New Balance associates and our retail partners have been deeply affected by the devastating news from Haiti,” said Molly Santry, Charitable Giving Program manager for New Balance.

“New Balance is committed to our company mission of social responsibility. We have donated 1,000 pairs of shoe from the New Balance family of brands and are proud to join forces with our New Balance stores and customers to further contribute to the recovery and relief efforts.”

Soles4Souls has partnered with other organizations on the ground in Haiti to transport and distribute the aid. More than 120,000 pairs of shoes, including work boots, rain boots, children’s athletic shoes and clothing items, have already been distributed in Haiti.

“As we struggle to comprehend the magnitude of this disaster, we cannot forget how important basic necessities – such as shoes – will be in the ongoing rescue and rebuilding efforts,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls.

“We deeply appreciate the support of New Balance and their customers in helping us provide shoes to survivors and volunteers as they work in horrific conditions.”

The death toll from the quake continues to rise, and survivors and rescuers are facing dire health conditions including stifling heat, lack of clean water, broken glass and raw sewage.
