Nester Hosiery Inc, a manufacturer of high performance socks for the outdoor industry has been awarded the 2010 Green Business of the Year award by the Mount Airy North Carolina Chamber of Commerce for its success is reducing landfill waste and conserving energy and water.

In 2009 and 2010, Nester Hosiery diverted 80% of its waste from the landfill into recycling & repurposing streams.  Compared to 2009, Nester Hosiery also reduced its total water consumption by 500,000 gallons while increasing the factory's total production output during 2010.   In addition, Nester Hosiery maintained the same energy per production unit efficiency in 2010 compared to 2009 while it increased its production capacity and expanded knitting operations to a second facility.  Helping drive all of this was Nester Hosiery’s Environmental Management System, which was implemented during 2010.

The award was presented to Nester Hosiery President, Kelly Nester at a special luncheon last month.
