Neptune Mountaineering will celebrate its 40th anniversary celebration April 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at its store at 633 S. Broadway St. Boulder, CO, 80305.

Over the past 40 years, Neptune Mountaineering has become a Boulder icon and were thrilled to be a part of such a momentous occasion, Jennifer Mull, CEO of Neptune Mountaineering and Backwoods, said. In our eyes, this is just the beginning, and our vision for the next 40 years is to remain an integral part of the Boulder community!

The in-store event will feature Neptune Mountaineerings founder, Gary Neptune, who will present a slideshow covering the past 40 years. This open house will give the community an opportunity to meet the founder, enjoy refreshments and help celebrate this milestone with Neptune Mountaineering.

A single-store mountain shop located in the shadow of Boulders Flatirons, Neptune Mountaineering first opened its doors on April 1, 1973. In the beginning, Neptune Mountaineering primarily repaired climbing and ski boots, and installed edges on wooden skis and re-shafted axes. Today the store is full of climbing, backpacking and backcountry ski equipment and gear, and the companys founder, Gary Neptune, has filled the shop with artifacts of his related passion for climbing and skiing. The museum within the store began to take shape in the late 1970s and has become one of the most extensive collections of its kind throughout the country.
