Neiman Marcus, Inc. reported comparable-store sales slumped 22.5% in April. Total sales were down 21.2% to $271 million from $343 million a year ago. In the four-week April period, comparable revenues in the Specialty Retail Stores segment, which includes Neiman Marcus Stores and Bergdorf Goodman, decreased 24.6%.

The company experienced weakness across all geographies and merchandise categories in the Specialty Retail Stores segment.

Comparable revenues at Neiman Marcus Direct in the four-week April period decreased 12.3%. The top selling merchandise category in the Direct Marketing segment was beauty.

In the thirteen weeks ended May 2, sales fell 23.7% to $810 million from $1.06 billion. Comps were off 25.1%.

Comparable revenues for Neiman Marcus, Inc. for the third quarter of fiscal year 2009 decreased 25.1%. For the third quarter of fiscal year 2009 Specialty Retail Stores comparable revenues decreased 27.1% which represents a comparable revenue decrease of 27.1% at Neiman Marcus Stores and 27.4% decrease at Bergdorf Goodman. Neiman Marcus Direct third quarter fiscal year 2009 revenues were 14.3% below last year.
