The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) announced the election of new board leadership for 2025. Andrew Feenstra, owner of Cyclesmith in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has been elected Board chair; Paul Tobio, owner of Ryder Bikes in Bradenton, FL, will serve as vice chair; and John Robinson, owner of Johnny Velo Bikes in Columbus, OH, has been elected secretary.
“I’m honored to serve as Board chair and work alongside such dedicated industry professionals,” said Feenstra. “My goal has always been to make bicycle retail a true profession where everyone is proud to be working in the industry, make a proper wage, and work at something they are passionate about. As chair, I’m committed to ensuring we don’t lose great people in their pursuit to find a ‘real job.’ The NBDA plays a crucial role in elevating our profession and supporting retailers North American wide.”
Tobio said, “Having spent over two decades in the cycling industry and 17 years in corporate retail operations, I understand the challenges and opportunities facing independent bike shops. I’m excited to bring my experience in operational excellence and strategic planning to this position and work with our Board to deliver even greater value to NBDA members across the country.”
Feenstra is a founding member of the NBDA P2C Group and brings 40 years of experience in retail operations and community building. Tobio has owned Ryder Bikes for over 17 years and brings a strong corporate background from his 17 years at Staples, where his roles encompassed store operations, supply chain and merchandising. Robinson, a cycling advocate, left corporate banking in 2018 to open Johnny Velo Bikes and has since earned recognition, including the NBDA’s Bicycle Retailers of Excellence Award.
The new leadership will work closely with Heather Mason, who has served as NBDA executive director since 2021, guiding the organization’s strategic initiatives and member services.
“This new board leadership represents the depth of experience and passion within our specialty bicycle retail community,” said Mason. “I invite all bike retailers, bicycle brands and industry individuals to join the NBDA and get involved in our community and programs. Together, we can strengthen the foundation of Specialty Bicycle Retail and ensure bicycle retailers continue to thrive as the heart of cycling culture in communities across North America.”
