The NBA Finals tip off June 2 with a strong rematch between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors — aka, Nike versus Under Armour.

The two brands faced off in the finals last year, with the Warriors taking home the trophy. The win didn’t just bring acclaim to the Bay Area, but continued to help Under Armour chip away at Nike’s No. 1 U.S. athletic-brand status. And to add sugar on top, the face of that victory came in large thanks from Stephen Curry, who Under Armour signed away from Nike through 2024.

On the other side, while Nike athlete LeBron James is heading to his sixth-straight NBA Finals, he seeks his first championship for hometown Cleveland, which hasn’t seen a professional national championship since the Cleveland Browns won the 1964 NFL Championship. It’s the longest drought for any U.S. city with at least two of the four major sports leagues.

Back on the basketball court, this year’s NBA rivalry returns with more fuel, as Curry took a second MVP honor and bets are placing James on the losing end once again. Odds are leaning in favor of the Warriors, who will open the finals with a home game.

Only a week ago during the Western Conference Finals, Nike had a chance of securing both spots in the NBA Finals when the Warriors duked it out with another swoosh kingpin, Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. In a nail-biting game seven, Curry and UA came back after a trailing start and secured their spot, once again, in the finals.

The wildcard this year could be Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love, who was injured in last year’s final matchup. Although Love is not signed to either Nike or UA, the sports community widely expects him to saddle up with James and the swoosh.

In late 2015, sports writer Nick DePaula tweeted “He’s expected to sign with Nike.” He was previously signed with China’s 361 Degrees.

Heading into the finals, Under Armour took cue from the huge success of Curry’s signature shoes — the Curry One and Curry Two — planning to release a special edition Curry Two “Gold Rings” during the weekend of the finals. On UA’s heels, Nike will release a signature sneaker during the championship – the Kyrie 2 – designed in partnership with another of its Cavalier players, point guard Kyrie Irving.

The NBA Finals begin at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. Game time is set for 9 p.m. ET.
