The Cross Optical Group (COG), which owns the Native and Costa sunglass brands, generated sales of $27.5 million for the second quarter ended June 30, up 11.2 percent compared to year earlier quarter, reported parent A.T. Cross Company.

COG’s operating income for the quarter reached $6.3 million, up 16.5 percent from a year earlier, according to figures released by A.T. Cross, which also owns the Cross Accessory Division (CAD), the maker of Cross pens and other personal accessories for the home and office.

Year-to-date, COG sales are up 14.0 percent to $47.5 million from $41.7 million in 2011.

“The Cross Optical Group generated a 17.5 percent profit increase on a 14.0 percent sales improvement, as the strategies we have put in place to build our sunglass business are working well,” said David G. Whalen, president and CEO of A.T. Cross.

At CAD, by contrast, sales fell 7.5 percent to $21.3 million as the business continued to be affected by economic problems in Europe. CAD sales grew in the Americas and Asia.
