Modells Sporting Goods is closing its 14,000-square-foot store at 51 E. 42nd St. in late February after its lease runs out. The location across Vanderbilt Avenue from Grand Central Terminal has been open 25 years.

Several stores are shuttering on the block to make way for a new 65-story office skyscraper, according to Crains New York. Modells continues to look for another location in the Grand Central area to replace the location.

Mitchell Modell, chief executive, told Crains Modells will open a store in Long Island City in early 2015 and has plans to add a total of five in 2015. It currently has 155 stores.
