Wolverine Worldwide opened a new Merrell concept store at Mall of America in Bloomington, MN this spring.

The store’s new, 1,900-square-foot design is based on a new Merrell retail store prototype, which has won recent acclaim.  Last year, the company built a new Merrell prototype store within its Rockford, MI corporate campus as a “retail lab” for the company’s own Retail Group and as a retail demonstration for the Merrell brand’s global distributors.  The new store design was recently awarded First Place, 2010 Store of the Year from Chain Store Age and was also recently recognized with an Award of Merit in Store Design from the Retail Design Institute.

The new Merrell stores “experience zones” include:

  • shoe and clothing walls on sliding barn doors to quickly provide product to shoppers;
  • a colorful topographic feature wall to create impact and modern design in the store;
  • a customer experience wall with the latest news from Merrell; and
  • a community information board that details upcoming events in the area.
The store design elements are tied together with a simple palette of authentic materials detailed in a clean, modern fashion, including materials such as polished concrete, reclaimed wood, natural steel, leather and felted stones and boulders.

The new Merrell store is designed to inspire customers and the outdoor athlete in everyone with clothing and shoes at the horizon of performance and style.
