According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played on a national level were down 5.5 percent in May 2013 compared to May 2012. The biggest decline came in the West North Central region, down 18.8 percent; followed by East North Central region, down 8.2 percent; and South Central, off 6.9 percent.

Other regions showing more modest declines included Mid Atlantic, down 2.7 percent; South Atlantic, 2.1 percent; and Mountain, 1.5 percent. The two regions showing gains were New England, up 1.6 percent; and Pacific, 1.1,

Public access play was down 4.3 percent and private course activity was down 10.3 percent.

There were 3530 contributing golf courses used in the report.
