According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played on a national level were down 4.8 percent in March 2014 compared to March 2013. Public access play was down 5.4 percent and private course activity was down 3.0 percent.

Among the regional decliners were New England, down 51.3 percent; Mid Atlantic, 30.6 percent; South Atlantic, 4.2 percent; South Central, 6.6 percent; and Pacific, 9.7 percent. Regional gains were seen in: East North Central, up 7.7 percent; West North Central, 33.5 percent; and Mountain, 2.9 percent.

There were 3280 contributing golf courses used in the report.
