According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played on a national level were up 29.5 percent in March 2012 over March 2011. The biggest regional jumps came in the Mid Atlantic, New England, East North Central, and West North Central.

Public access play was up 33.7 percent and private course activity was up
16.7 percent. There were 3,650 contributing golf courses used in the report.

By region, the highest gain came in East North Central, 195.6 percent; followed by Mid Atlantic, 131.8 percent; West North Central, 129.4 percent; New England, 115.3 percent; South Atlantic, 11.2 percent; Mountain, 11.0 percent; Pacific, 7.5 percent; and South Central, 7.0 percent.

In the year-to-date period, rounds played are up 22.0 percent.
