Climb High, the U.S. distributor of Mammut, has announced the winner of the first annual Mammut Outdoor Appreciation Scholarship award. Liz Nehme, a junior at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia will receive full tuition, round-trip airfare, and full outfitting of alpine clothing awarded by Mammut for the Outward Bound classic course of her choice. Nehme was chosen for her dedication to the outdoors, including work as a facilitator in Lynchburg’s New Horizons outdoor program, and her future goal to pursue a graduate degree and career in outdoor experiential education.

As the scholarship winner, Nehme will spend part of her winter semester beginning to fulfill this goal through attending Hurricane Island Outward Bound School’s 22 day Wilderness Outdoor Leadership Course, designed to improve upon the technical, expedition, and leadership skills of participants who are interested in outdoor leadership positions. On the course, Liz will be backpacking, dogsledding, ice climbing, cross-country skiing and winter camping throughout Western Maine and in New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest.

“Our intent with this award and Mammut’s partnership with Outward Bound was to nurture outdoor leadership in young people,” said Jeff Cunningham, Marketing Director for Climb High/Mammut. “Liz has demonstrated a passion for the outdoors and a dedication to pursuing it as a career, and we’re happy to be part of an opportunity that will allow her to acquire and develop her outdoor leadership skills.”
