Macy's Inc. said that beginning Jan. 26, 2011, macys.com will launch free shipping everyday on purchases of $99 or more and $8 flat fee shipping for orders less than $99 (with some exclusions).

With this new hassle-free shipping policy, Macy's becomes one of a
select few national retailers to offer free shipping within the United
States. The shipping savings also extend to beauty products, with free
shipping for purchases of over $50.

Additionally, most items purchased on macys.com can be easily returned
by mail or to a Macy's store, with original proof of purchase.

“Macys.com has become one of the most successful online shopping destinations for apparel, jewelry, accessories, cosmetics, gifts and home products,” said Peter Sachse, chief marketing officer of Macy's. “In response to requests from our loyal customers, we are implementing this extremely user-friendly shipping policy that does not require special codes and is available every day of the year, not just during promotional periods or holidays. We think our customers will enjoy the savings and convenience of this special offer.”

The free shipping policies are subject to the minimum purchase amounts outlined and do not include gift wrap charges, purchases of gift cards or tax. The policy only applies to standard shipping to one location and may be applied to premium and overnight shipping for an upgrade fee. Additionally, the free shipping offer does not apply to Coach, furniture, rugs, mattresses, items shipped to US territories or APO/FPO addresses, Macy's store purchases or prior purchases. Due to size and/or weight, certain items will bear a shipping surcharge.

Macy's move is the latest in a series of initiatives from big online and
multichannel retailers to match the success of Amazon Prime, which
charges subscribers a $79 annual fee for free standard shipping on all
purchases made directly from Amazon.com.
