Lowa Boots will for the fifth year sponsor the Hari Berger Speed Climbing Competition at the 22nd annual Ouray Ice Festival, which will take place January 19-22, 2017 in Ouray, CO.

Hari Berger was an all-around champion competition ice climber before he lost his life in 2006 in an accident while climbing in Austria. Lowa’s sponsorship of the event with a $7,000 purse doubles the Festival’s cash prize opportunities. The Competition will be held on Sunday, January 22. There will be individual men’s and women’s classes, each with $2,000 in first place prizes, second place of $1000 and $500 for the third place finishers.

Lowa brand ambassador Carlos Buhler, who specializes in high-standard mountaineering characterized by small teams, no oxygen, minimal gear and equipment on ascents of difficult routes in challenging conditions, will be present at the event. He will be joined by Lowa’s Michael Frank, Beth Goralski and Ines Papert. The boot tent team will be led by Chad Gallwitz, Lowa’s sales representative in the Rocky Mountains. Assisting Chad will be Christian McConnell from Lowa’s U.S. office.
