Lifetime Products, Inc. of Clearfield, Utah, has acquired the assets of kayak maker Dragonfly Innovation Corp. of San Bernardino, Calif.

Lifetime – a manufacturer of blow molded polyethylene and steel folding tables and chairs, sporting goods equipment, outdoor storage sheds, and lawn and garden products – will move production of Dragonfly’s kayaks, paddles and accessories to its Clearfield headquarters.

“This is an investment in Utah manufacturing and Utah jobs.” Lifetime President Richard Hendrickson said in a news release. “Acquiring Dragonfly allows us to add to our lineup of made-in-the-USA products and to enter the water sports arena.”

“Because of their large size and resulting freight costs, kayaks are not economical imports. Acquisition of the company will assist in keeping jobs in the United States and Utah,” the release said.

Dragonfly President Thomas Eckert will join Lifetime in an undisclosed capacity to aid in the transition.

Founded in 2005, Dragonfly catered to beginners in kayaking. All Dragonfly kayaks – the Moorea, Manta and Wave product lines – were designed to prevent flipping. In addition, some models included molded carrying handles, paddle holders, and watertight storage.

Dragonfly kayaks are available nationally at Wal-Mart.com, Dicks Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, Fred Meyer, as well as internationally in Mexico and Australia.

Lifetime in 2008 acquired Jumping Jack Trailers Inc. of Salt Lake City and, according to the release, its line of tent trailers can be configured to carry kayaks.

According to the company website, Lifetime’s 120,000-square-foot plant in Clearfield has 24 Kautex and Sterling blow molding machines. Worldwide, the company employs about 1,500
