LifeStraw, a developer of filtration and purification products for safe drinking water, has partnered with Thirst, an international non-profit committed to water conservation led by Mina Guli, to launch a global water awareness campaign on March 22 – World Water Day.
LifeStraw’s supporting components include its 2017 commitment to launch a water filtration product that removes heavy metals in water and a call to action to global CEOs and consumers to take affirmative steps addressing the global water crisis. Guli, an international water advocate, will run the equivalent of 40 marathons (1,048 miles) along six rivers on six continents in six weeks starting in Las Vegas as part of the 6 River Run. She will hydrate from rivers she is running along using LifeStraw personal filtration products.
“Mina and I were brought together as two, young, global women leaders working on safe water and driven to make change,” said Alison Hill, managing director of LifeStraw. “6 River Run is a heroic feat of endurance raising awareness for a critical issue – lack of clean water. By running along the most historic rivers in the world, she raises a critical message – the world’s future and our lives depend on having enough clean safe water – is sure to resonate. Together, we are asking for an extraordinary commitment from everyone, everywhere to turn the tide.”
Using the LifeStraw Go 2-Stage and LifeStraw Personal, Guli’s river route includes the Colorado River, the Amazon River in South America, the Murray-Darling Basin in Australia, the Yangtze River in Asia and the Nile River in Africa, ending April 23 on the River Thames in Europe.
Hill is asking global corporate leaders to make a pledge, dedicating resources to ensuring their companies become effective water stewardship leaders, following guidelines of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6. Guli’s call to action asks consumers and companies to adapt sustainable best practices in their daily lives and to engineer more water-friendly products.
