John Wilson Sporting Goods to Close

John Wilson Sporting Goods, based  in Cedar Rapids, IA, will launch a going-out-of-business sale Thursday, according to The Gazzette. John Wilson founded the store in 1946, and it is run by his grandson, Pete Wilson and granddaughter, Lucy Stevens.

“We had to make a decision whether to sign another long-term lease,” Pete Wilson told the newspaper. “We were hoping that things would improve this year after we weathered the spring and the flooding, but things have kind of gone south in terms of the overall economy.”

John Wilson Sporting Goods in Cedar Rapids was located in Lindale Mall for 21 years until it moved in the spring of 2001 to the Lindale Crossing shopping center.
