Jockey International Inc. appointed Byron Norfleet as president and chief operating officer, succeeding Ed Emma, who will become consultant to the CEO.

The change becomes effective on Dec. 14.

“Under Ed Emma's leadership, Jockey experienced a period of remarkable growth and expansion. He is leaving behind a rich legacy, and we are deeply thankful for his extraordinary stewardship of the Jockey brand,” Chairman and Chief Executive Debra S. Waller said in a statement.

Norfleet joined Jockey in 2010 with more than 25 years of apparel, footwear and retail industry experience, the company said. As Jockey's president of North America wholesale and licensing, Norfleet led a number of successful initiatives including new product introductions and robust expansion. He spearheaded the Coopers by Jockey launch at Nordstrom, Jockey's shapewear collaboration with Yummie Tummie and the new JKY by Jockey collection at Target.

Prior to joining Jockey, Norfleet held management roles at PMI, Brown Shoe Co. and Genesco.

During Emma's 21-year tenure, he was instrumental in establishing Jockey as a leader in the intimate apparel category, the company said. His major accomplishments include expanding the brand throughout North America and internationally, leading the launch of new direct-to-consumer channels with Jockey.com and the Jockey catalog business, and brand building efforts that include Jockey's highly successful partnership with Tim Tebow. In addition to taking on the new role of consultant to the CEO, Emma will continue to serve on Jockey International's board.
