Mojo Cycling, an independent bike shop in Newton, Iowa, is closing after 16 years of operation as the owner, Joe Urias, heads to retirement.
The location has started clearance sales but has no closing date. Urias told Newton News that he plans to transition the business model to only servicing his customers’ bikes, and he is open to someone taking over the store.
Urias said on a Facebook post, “Mojo Cycling of Newton has been in business for 16 years. I will be retiring at some point this year. I plan to continue working on and servicing bikes for my customers by appointment for as long as needed. My first job was at Happy Joe’s when I was 14, followed by roles as assistant manager at Pizza Hut, Sirloin Stockade, and Sambo’s Pancake House. I went back to school and got a degree in tool and die at Marshalltown. I worked for Maytag for 26 years; after leaving, I returned to school and earned a business degree at DMACC. During my studies, I did an internship at a Rasmussen bike shop in Altoona. John provided me with the knowledge needed to open my own business here in Newton. We have appreciated your support of Mojo Cycling of Newton throughout these years.”
