Just one day into the Democratic National Convention, more than 1,400 people had participated in Freewheelin, a bike-sharing program from Humana and Bikes Belong.

“The first day was a tremendous success,” said Tim Blumenthal, executive director of Bikes Belong. “Each of our seven stations was busy all day… We couldn’t have asked for more.”

Humana partnered with Bikes Belong to bring Freewheelin to this year’s political conventions. Humana is providing 1,000 bikes for free use in Denver throughout the DNC, and will take an additional 1,000 bikes to Minneapolis-Saint Paul next week for the Republican National Convention, bringing a total of more than $500,000 worth of biking equipment to both cities.
