Hoka One One, a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation, has added middle-distance runner Mike Rutt to its team of elite athletes.

This past weekend in Boston, Mass., Rutt ran the anchor leg on his New Jersey / New York Track Club’s 4 x 800 meter relay team that broke the existing world record. Unfortunately they lost the race by 11 100ths of a second to the USA All Stars, so while they broke the old record, they did not set the new world record.

“We are proud to have Mike Rutt on our team,” HOKA ONE ONE Brand President, Jim Van Dine said. “Having a high caliber middle-distance runner in addition to our ultra marathon runners proves that the revolutionary HOKA ONE ONE design works for every type of runner imaginable.”

Rutt's highest achievements include being a 2012 Indoor World Championship Finalist and being a four-time All American while at the University of Connecticut. Rutt is based in Princeton, New Jersey.

“This is so much more than just a sponsorship,” Rutt said. “For me, this is about a company putting their faith in me to represent their brand well, both on and off the track. It's an opportunity for me to continue to grow in the sport. I am honored and feel very privileged to work with such a tight-knit group of people and a brand that has been growing exponentially since they started in 2010.”
