After three decades in Modesto, CA, Hi-Tec Sports USA has become the latest sporting goods company to move its U.S. headquarters to Portland. The new building and community space, located near Portlands Pearl district, will accommodate current staff and enable further expansion.

“An iconic outdoor brand, Hi-Tec is primed for growth and Portland is a hub for some of the best talent in our industry,” said Bill Berta, CEO for Hi-Tec USA. “Few cities share our values and commitment to a healthy, outdoor lifestyle like Portland. We could not be happier to be here.”

Hi-Tec said Portland was selected over several Western cities for its access to activewear industry talent and a commitment to the culture of sustainability.

“Portland extends a warm welcome to Hi-Tec and the new jobs this well-established footwear and apparel business is bringing to the central city,” said Portland Mayor Sam Adams. “Hi-Tec's choice of our city for

“Portland extends a warm welcome to Hi-Tec and the new jobs this well-established footwear and apparel business is bringing to the central city,” said Portland Mayor Sam Adams. “Hi-Tec’s choice of our city for the company’s U.S. headquarters reaffirms Portland's stature as the center of the active wear industry.”

The company will be relocating its headquarters to the historic Carson Building on South West 11th and West Burnside. Built in the 1920s, the brick and concrete structure is an ideal mix of old and new, reclaimed and reused materials, and was once a part of Portland’s historic auto row.

In recent years, Hi-Tec has grown and expanded its North American business, including the hiring of a new executive management team. Joining the team are industry veterans Dennis Hochwender, Outdoor Product Director, Kirk Nichols, Vice President of Sales, and Erika Bruhn, Director of Marketing. Together, the team offers decades of combined experience at well-established brands including Columbia Sportswear, KEEN, Danner, and LaCrosse.

“Hi-Tec's relocation to the Pacific Northwest is an ideal move at an ideal time. With the new team and a new home, we're excited about Hi-Tec’s potential, our ability to innovate products and competing in a changing outdoor market. We couldn’t be happier to write the next chapter of Hi-Tec’s 30-year history,” said Berta.

Berta told the Oregonian said Hi-Tec’s annual sales are now in the $250 million range and that its top retailer in the United States is The Sports Authority.
