H2O Audio, the maker of waterproof/sweatproof headphones and accessories for athletes, named John Paul Cavanaugh as chief executive officer, effective immediately.  As part of an overall growth strategy heading into 2010, Cavanaugh will replace Kristian Rauhala, co-founder.

Rauhala, who established the San Diego-based company in 2003 with co-founders, Rany Polany and Carl Pettersen, plans to remain involved in H2O Audio’s product development and athlete initiatives.

“I’ve come into this position as CEO to help set and support a clear path to continued growth and success,” said Cavanaugh.  “We are a company of athletes who develop products for athletes and sports enthusiasts, and our goals are simple – to provide the best products possible, to do all we can to support our customers and partners, and to provide great experiences through our customer service, events, and online community that encourage more and more people to become a part of our world.”

“Our product offerings have increased significantly in the past year,” Cavanaugh continued.  “Our customers are excited about the new Amphibx waterproof cases and Surge™ headphones, the all-in-one Interval System  keeps getting rave reviews, and we’re working hard to expand our product lines to ensure we have the right solution for anyone in any sport.  With our growing roster of athlete ambassadors, including Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin and Laird Hamilton, we not only have an incredible team for product development and feedback, we’re continually challenged to meet the expectations of some of the best athletes in the world.  It’s a great time to join the H2O Audio team and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.”

Cavanaugh brings solid entrepreneurial experience to H2O Audio, most recently as the Founder and Chairman of a web application company that was acquired by a Fortune 100 corporation.  Earlier this year, H2O Audio announced a partnership with 16-time Olympic medalist and 17-time World Champion swimmer, Michael Phelps; and expanded distribution into Best Buy and Sports Authority stores nationwide.  H2O Audio is also currently available in Apple stores across the U.S., on Apple.com and Amazon.com, and in select specialty sports and surf/skate shops.
