GU Energy Labs has teamed up with Slipstream Sports to serve as one of the worldwide nutrition suppliers to the UCI World Tour squad Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling.

GU will provide gels, chews and recovery products for the highly-regarded team that includes Andrew Talansky, Ted King, Ryder Hesjedal, Dan Martin and Joe Dombrowski.

The partnership allows GU Energy Labs to advance its development of ground-breaking nutritional planning for athletes. The company joins Bonk Breaker and Skratch Labs as nutrition sponsors: “There is nothing like a Pro Tour schedule to test the boundaries of nutritional performance,” said Jonathan Vaughters, CEO, Slipstream Sports.  “Gu is a proven leader in performance nutrition – its products are performance-tested and athlete-driven, and we are happy to add another great nutrition partner to the Slipstream family.”

2015 will see the team competing in a wide array of races, including the Tour Down Under, the spring classics, the Giro and the Vuelta, the Tour de France and, domestically, the US Pro and Tour of California.

GU’s Vice President of Innovation, Magdalena Boulet, said: “these are some of the most well-conditioned, highly-attuned endurance athletes in the world.  They’re absolutely meticulous about their nutrition because it is so critical to their performance.  We are proud to fuel them throughout the upcoming season and look forward to learning how to better serve the nutrition needs of cyclists through this great partnership.”

Pro Tour teams require unique fueling needs during both training and competition, with riders burning up to 6,500 calories in a single grand tour stage. Brian Vaughan, the Chief Endurance Officer of GU and himself a top age-group cyclist notes, “We’re acutely interested in the integration of our products into the overall nutrition plans designed by the team and the individual athletes.”

Among the products provided to Cannondale-Garmin will be GU Energy Gels, Chews, Recovery Drink and Roctane Ultra-Endurance Energy Gels.
