The Global Surf Industries 2018 Life Is Better When You Surf Scholarship Program is now open for submissions for kids age 12-15 years old in the U.S.

Global Surf Industries (GSI) is looking to award 16 kids in the U.S. with two new surfboards and $1000 towards their education to empower young surfers and encourage their academic learning.

GSI created the scholarship to promote the positive values around surfing and education and to give back to the surfing community. The scholarship is focussed on kids who exemplify that ‘Life Is Better When You Surf’ and show active enthusiasm for their education, rather than on surfing ability or academic achievement.

In 2017, 30 kids across U.S., Australia and New Zealand received the Life Is Better When You Surf Scholarship. Since receiving their scholarships, the 2017 recipients have been able to purchase computers, enroll in tuition, pay school fees, participate in interstate sports competitions, attend school camps and a language immersion school.

“As we launch the 2018/19 round of “Life is better when you surf” Scholarships, it gives me a lot of pleasure to know that the program worked so well last year that we are expanding it to a wider number of countries, allowing more kids to take part. The feedback we got from last year’s families was overwhelming; the gratitude of the recipients was humbling. I especially loved learning about the level of involvement and understanding of selflessness many of these young kids have taken on in their young lives,” said Mark Kelly, Global Surf Industries CEO.

Life Is Better When You Surf Scholarship applications are open for citizens of the U.S. from July 15-August 12, 2018.
