Don Scott, co-owner of GSI Outdoors, a leading supplier of outdoor cookware, announces the addition of Mike Glavin to their management team in the new position of director of sales and marketing. In a joint move, GSI has acquired Glavin’s start-up company of designer outdoor cutlery, Thrive, which will be trademarked, marketed, and distributed as a stand-alone brand under the GSI Outdoors umbrella.

In his new position, Mike assumes overall responsibility for all sales and marketing functions worldwide including market development strategies, advertising, and dealer relations. Prior to joining GSI Outdoors, he teamed with a small group of Canadian partners to design and develop the Thrive line of smart-looking and stylish, yet functional backcountry cutlery. The brand was introduced at the 2005 summer Outdoor Retailer show and will now benefit from GSI Outdoors’ well-tuned infrastructure.

“We were already impressed with Thrive’s business model and initial product offering, and when we heard that Mike was involved, we knew we had the perfect fit,” said Scott. “The addition of a proven industry veteran to our management team will help launch us into a new and exciting time for our brand, and Thrive outdoor cutlery will add a new dimension to our product line. We’ll be able to offer our customers cutlery that will bring a touch of elegance to outdoor dining.”

Mike joins the company with many years experience in the outdoors. Prior to Thrive, he was Vice President of Marketing for Mountainsmith and Director of Sales and Marketing for MSR. He is well versed in the outdoor industry and challenges facing outdoor retailers. “I’m excited to join the GSI team,” commented Glavin. “The brand is unsurpassed in its category, and my goal will be to make sure that the outdoor market knows this.”
