Gramicci said it was sponsoring a climbing team at Weber State as part of a new initiative that will include climbing sponsorships, events and new marketing incentives desgined to reinforce the brand's historic ties with the climbing community.
Gramicci outfitted the Weber State team this fall with organic tee shirts and climbing pants. This support aligns with the Gramicci belief in the evolving sport of competitive Bouldering and allowing more young people access to test their limits. Gramicci has always been a young active brand and the collegiate demographic naturally gravitates to the style and function in the collections.
Weber State Climbing in Utah is part of the new horizon of collegiate climbing clubs. Jarret Bray, team director explains their start, “Climbing is more than a sport to us. It is a way of life. In the summer of 2010 two college students from Ogden, Utah decided that it was time for them to share their lifestyle with others at Weber State University. August marked the beginning of classes and also our first team meeting. That first day we signed over 20 members.”
The Weber State Climbing Team is focused on competition. They train twice a week and emphasize correct form, strength training, and dedication. As a philosophy they also understand that there is more to climbing than winning a prize. The coaches strive to instill team sportsmanship, self-esteem, and an attitude of giving back to the rock through boulder field cleanups and climbing education.
“With all of the time that we spend training, climbing for fun, and teaching our skills to others; it is necessary that we have clothing that can keep up with our lifestyles,” said Team President Jarret Bray. “Gramicci’s products provide us with clothing that moves when we move; allowing all of those foot to hand matches to proceed unrestricted. The hemp blended products keep us cool and dry after hours of intense training sessions. The bottom line is this: no matter how burly the climbing gets; Gramicci doesn’t let us down.”
The Weber State Climbing program sponsorship is part of an evolving Gramicci team roster and event intiatives to support the sport of climbing and the climbing industry to new and existing enthusiasts.
