Gottschalks Inc.'s same-store sales in June fell 9.5%. Total sales during the period fell 9.8% to $51.9 million from $57.5 million during the comparable period last year.
Through the first 22 weeks of the year, same-store sales fell 10.1%, while total sales declined 10.7%, compared with the same period last year.
Gottschalks has been reducing inventory as sales slow and the economy weakens, said chairman and chief executive Jim Famalette. Inventory at the end of June was down 8% from the same time last year.
