According to Gold Datatech, golf rounds played in the U.S. were down 1.1 percent during July compared to July 2012. Public access play was down 0.2 percent and private course activity was down 5.2 percent.

The biggest decline came in the New England region, down 8.6
percent; followed by Mid Atlantic, declining 5.6 percent; South Atlantic, 2.4
percent; Mountain, 2.3 percent; East North Central, 1.0 percent; and South
Central, 0.2 percent. Gains were seen in the Pacific region, up 1 percent, and West North Central, 6.2 percent.

There were 3635 contributing golf courses used in this report.

For the first seven months of the year, rounds played are down 7.9 percent.
