A decline in sales at France’s third-largest sporting goods retailer accelerated in the third quarter.


GO Sport Group reported sales declined 9.4 percent compared with a year earlier on a 8.2 percent currency-neutral (c-n) decline in same-store sales. Total sales reached €166 million ($220 mm) in the quarter, down 0.7 percent from the third quarter of 2012.


In France, same-store sales for the GO Sport banner were down 11.0 percent, as competition heated up at the end of August. Same-store sales for GO Sport in Poland increased 2.1 percent (c-n). At Courir, the company’s specialty running banner, same-store sales fell 2.9 percent (c-n), compared with the third quarter of 2012, when they had surged 8.3 percent.



For the first nine months of the fiscal year, GO Sport Group reported sales of €482 million ($635 mm), down 6.0 percent.  The company had reported a 4.1 percent decline in sales for the first half.
