Ron Menconi, G.I. Joe's vice president of marketing and merchandising, announced the creation of a new buyer position. Bob Leis, the current store manager of the G. I. Joe's Hayden Meadows store in Portland, OR, will move to the chain's Wilsonville Headquarters at the beginning of July. Leis will assume the responsibility for the following categories: archery, shooting sports, optics, firearms and ammunition, knives, multi-tools, and camouflage apparel. In addition, Leis will also buy air guns, paintball, and dog-care and dog-training products.

“Bob has done a superior job as manager of a top performing store. His store sales and merchandising experience will be a great addition to our buying team. As an avid hunter and fisherman, Bob has lead the 'G.I. Joe's Quality Guide Services' program since its inception and will continue to coordinate this popular customer service,” said Menconi.

Menconi added that the new buyer position is important to maintaining G.I. Joe's leadership in merchandise selection and quality as the chain adds stores and increases its sales volume. Last month the chain also increased its apparel buying and merchandising staff.

G.I. Joe's also announced two promotions to support the Northwest Sports and Auto Retailer as it grows and adds stores. Shannon Burley was promoted to Director of Advertising and Marketing and Reese Thedford was promoted to Promotions Manager.

“The growth of G. I. Joe's continues to provide opportunity for the members of our team to grow professionally. Our advertising and special events connect us with our communities and our customers, so it's important to put the right person in each job. The promotion of Shannon Burley and Reese Thedford accomplish that for G.I. Joe's,” Menconi said.

Shannon Burley has worked for G.I. Joe's since 2002. Prior to her promotion she was the interim Advertising Manager for the company. Shannon will direct the company's sales promotion, advertising, media, special promotions, events, marketing programs and store signing. She will continue to supervise both the advertising production department, graphics and sign shop.

Reese Thedford began his career at Joe's in 2002 working in sales and Sport Services. He joined the Promotions Department as an intern in 2004, before assuming the interim Promotions Manager that same year. Reese will manage and coordinate all sponsorships, special promotions, store events and corporate events.
