Genesis Health Clubs (Genesis), a privately owned U.S. health club chain, has acquired Pelican Athletic Club in Mandeville, LA, located on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Genesis reported that the acquisition marked the company’s 78th location nationwide, its third in Louisiana, and its ninth acquisition of 2025, adding to existing Louisiana clubs in Slidell and Baton Rouge. The newly acquired property will be known as Genesis Health Clubs-PAC.
“This acquisition marks the latest step in a rapid series of strategic expansions for Genesis Health Clubs, which has been expanding aggressively across the Midwest and in the South in recent years,” the company said in a media release. “In just the first eight months of the year, the company has added nine clubs to its portfolio, strengthening its position as the country’s leading privately owned health club brand and demonstrating a long-term dedication to growth in key markets.”
Genesis said, “Pelican Athletic Club has established itself as one of Louisiana’s leading health and wellness centers.” The 70,000-square-foot facility on 15 acres offers outdoor tennis courts, aquatics, and fitness equipment, a dedicated group fitness space, a spa, café, and social spaces
“Pelican Athletic Club is a well-known, large athletic complex with a strong reputation and dedicated members,” said Rodney Steven II, president and owner of Genesis Health Clubs. “The amenities, quality and community it has built fit perfectly with the Genesis brand. We’re here to build on that success, invest in the member experience and continue elevating the standard for health and fitness in the South.”
The newly acquired club is expected to undergo a smooth transition, minimizing disruption for existing members.
