GE Energy recently opened a 7,000-square-meter, state-of-the-art manufacturing and laboratory facility in Shanghai, China to support growing demand for eVent fabrics.

The new building consists of office space, production facilities and laboratories. EVent fabrics are waterproof breathable membranes used in outdoor apparel, footwear and gear. Manufacturing and supporting activities at the facility will increase in three phases over the next twelve months.

“This new Shanghai facility will benefit our customers as it will improve our ability to deliver this technology locally and around the world,” said Bob Muscat, product line general manager for eVent fabrics.

EVent fabrics are made with GE’s proprietary expanded PTFE membrane technology to produce an exceptionally breathable, highly-functional waterproof laminate. Honored by the American Alpine Institute with its prestigious Guides’ Choice award, eVent fabrics are used by more than 70 brands worldwide in demanding outerwear, footwear, gloves, hats, gaiters, sleeping bags and bivy bags.
