Garmin confirmed reports that it has acquired Moxy Monitor, the long-standing specialist in near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) muscle oxygen sensors.

Terms were disclosed.

The Moxy Monitor is a small, wearable device that uses near-infrared spectroscopy to track muscle oxygen saturation during exercise. The device measures the percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin and myoglobin in active muscle tissue in real time and pairs with sports computers, watches, and training platforms like Garmin.

The acquisition comes as Garmin earlier this year filed a trademark application for “Muscle Battery,” an algorithmic feature designed to track localized muscle fatigue and oxygen saturation (SmO₂).

Garmin didn’t issue a press release regarding the acquisition because the purchase fell below SEC disclosure thresholds for a company of Garmin’s size.
