Gander Mountain had a 14.3% increase in comparable store sales for the third quarter of 2003 and a total sales growth of 40.3%. This increase, consistent across all store markets and merchandise categories, marks the 12th consecutive month of comparable store increases for Gander Mountain. Comparable store sales increased 11.9 percent for the year to date. The company also reported a 13.7 percent increase in total store square footage in the third quarter.

During the quarter, Gander Mountain opened four large-format “Superstores,” including two in the Minneapolis market with Superstores in Lakeville, Minn., and Forest Lake, Minn. Superstores are approximately three times larger than a traditional Gander Mountain store, between 75,000 and 100,000 square feet, and have additional features and services. The company will continue to expand and grow in 2004 with plans to open additional Superstores in new markets.

“Our consistent performance over the last year reinforces our position as an outdoor lifestyle supplier with a dominant merchandise assortment,” said Mark Baker, Gander Mountain chief executive officer. “We couldn't be more pleased with our continued growth, especially in a challenging retail environment. It's also obvious our passionate and knowledgeable associates are delivering superior customer service and are essential contributors to our growth and performance.”
