Game One, the team dealer consortium based in Swanton, OH, appointed Matt Kaplan, formerly president of OrderMyGear (OMG), as chief strategy & growth officer, to help propel its next phase of growth.

Kaplan was at OrderMyGear, the online group sales software platform used by team dealers, apparel decorators, and custom uniform suppliers, for eight years, including as president since February 2021. He joined the business in May 2018 as head of enterprise sales. Game One said that during his tenure at OrderMyGear, Kaplan “helped scale the business from an emerging startup into one of the industry’s most influential technology platforms.

Previously, he worked for Under Armour for 16 years, with his last role being director of sales, team sports.

Initially called ASB Sports, Game One was formed in 2018 with the merger of three team dealers: Williams’ Sporting Goods, Paris, TX; Cardinal’s Sports Center, Cardinal Sports, Lubbock, TX; and Team Sports, Holland, OH. The firm has since acquired six more dealers: Athletic Supply, Odessa, TX; Barcelona Sports, Houston, TX; Brandtek, Madison, WI; Bumblebee Sports, Nicholasville, KY;  The Graphic Edge, Carroll, IA; and Universal Athletic, Bozeman, MT.

Game One is owned by Trivest Partners, a Miami-based private-equity firm focused on founder-led and family-owned businesses.

Game one said Kaplan’s “addition marks Game One’s next phase of growth, driven by strategic acquisitions, expanded market reach, and new avenues for scale.” In his role as chief strategy & growth officer, Kaplan will lead Game One’s strategic growth initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, sales rep network expansion, and the development of new revenue channels.

“Matt brings a unique combination of industry relationships, growth experience, and strategic perspective,” said Pat Weber, president and CEO of Game One. “As we look ahead, we see significant opportunity to expand our reach and build on the momentum we’ve created. Matt will play a key role in helping us execute that strategy and position Game One for its next stage of growth.”

“Game One has a strong foundation, a clear identity, and a culture that stands out in this industry,” Kaplan added. “I couldn’t imagine a better fit for this next chapter.”

Kaplan added, “Team sports have been a constant in my life, both as an athlete and as a dad. There’s nothing quite like watching a student-athlete take the field wearing something you helped create. Those moments are what make this industry special. Game One understands that, and they’re building something different here. This is the right team, the right time, and I’m excited for what we’re going to build together.”
