A former Nike executive and his wife have been sentenced in Oregon to three years of probation after pleading guilty to federal tax charges involving income from a South Korean footwear manufacturer.
The Oregonian reports an investigation found that Ronald Hartfeil and his wife, Debra Hartfeil, received a total of $330,000 from representatives of the Samho Co., a Nike footwear contractor. But no reason was listed for the payments.
Ronald Hartfeil was the director of global footwear operations for the sportswear giant based near Beaverton when he failed to declare $100,000 on a 2007 tax return.
Attorneys for the Oregon City couple said in a statement they fully cooperated with the investigation and paid back taxes that were owed.
Federal prosecutors noted they donated much of the money to charity.
