Asics Corp. announced that its former chairman of the board, Motoi Oyama, has been appointed honorary president of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI).
The appointment was announced at the WFSGI General Assembly held in Boston in April.
Asics said, “Oyama has made significant contributions to the activities of WFSGI and to the international development of the sporting goods industry over many years, including serving two terms as president of the federation. At Asics Corporation, he served as representative director and president as well as representative director and chairman, playing a key role in the company’s management and global expansion, and leading the full-scale development of its overseas business.”
Asics said the appointment marks the second time a Japanese national has been named honorary president of WFSGI, following Asics founder Kihachiro Onitsuka.
