The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI), which represents the European sporting goods industry, has appointed Bruno Alves as president. Alves, who is the senior director of government and public affairs at Nike Europe, will succeed Frank Dassler, who has held the role since October 2010.

Alves will work alongside Johan Adamson, Luca Businaro, Mark Held, Michel Zany, and Dassler.

The election came as the industry association introduced its 2014-2016 strategic plan. The plan stated goals around international trade policy, intellectual property protection, product safety and sustainability.

“The newly adopted FESI strategic plan will help our association adapt to new challenges and effectively pursue future opportunities for the development of our sector and promotion of sports in Europe,” Alves said in a statement.

FESI represents the European sporting goods industry, directly and indirectly employing about 640,000 workers in the EU with a total turnover of over 60 billion. 1,800 companies are members, either directly or indirectly through national sports industry federations from Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
