Goody's reported total sales for the fiscal month of February 2004 of $77.1 million, an increase of 16.3% from total sales of $66.3 million for the fiscal month of February 2003. Comparable store sales for February 2004 increased 14.4% from February 2003.

“I am pleased that Goody's sales were better than expected for the first month of fiscal 2004,” commented Robert M. Goodfriend, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Although February results are typically driven by clearance sales, these increases were due partly to customer acceptance of our new spring merchandise offerings. Better weather conditions this year also had a positive impact on sales, compared with the inclement weather that occurred during most of February last year.”

The Company expects to open three new stores – one each in Whiteville, North Carolina; Lincoln, Illinois; and West Orange, Texas, on March 11, 2004, and also anticipates the grand opening of three remodeled stores on March 25, 2004, one each in Albany, Georgia; Southern Pines, North Carolina; and Madisonville, Kentucky.
