Fanatics reported that it plans to close its distribution center in Riverview, FL next year, resulting in the layoff of 286 employees.

The company announced the closure and job cuts in a letter sent to state and local officials and posted to Florida’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification database. The company sent the letter to meet federal WARN requirements.

In the letter, Fanatics noted that the layoffs will begin on March 1 and continue until July 31, 2026. However, some operational changes will begin in January.

Fanatics’ Oak Creek Distribution Center is at 8221 Eagle Palm Drive in Riverview, FL, between Tampa and Manatee County.

According to the company’s media statement, the Riverview DC was included in its 2017 acquisition of Majestic Athletic.

“As our business has grown and our operational needs have evolved, the facility can no longer support the scale, technology, and innovation required to meet our long-term goals,” the statement read.

The company will offer severance to affected employees and hold job fairs in the coming months. Employees will also be able to apply for open positions at other Fanatics locations.

In January of 2024, Fanatics reported it would shutter one of its oldest fulfillment centers in Jacksonville, FL, laying off 218 employees. At the time, Fanatics said it continues to upgrade technology and services at newer facilities to better address the needs of consumers, retailers and team/club customers.

In August 2024, Fanatics opened a facility in Tampa, FL.
