The U.S. Senate passed legislation last week that would protect merchants from lawsuits alleging violations of a provision of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) that prohibit them from printing expiration dates of customers’ credit card receipts.

The bill says a business that printed an expiration date on a receipt over the past 18 months cannot be found in violation of  FACTA as long as they truncated the customer’s credit card to no more than the last five digits and complied with other FCRA requirements. President Bush must now sign the bill.
