EXEC: Pinterest Calls Out Sports Lifestyle as Hot Summer Trend

Pinterest’s Summer 2026 Trend Report found sports style to be trending strongly and often virally this year, with searches on Pinterest spiking for hybrid sneakers, windbreakers & tracksuits, team jerseys and retro sunglasses.

The social media platform also explored how sports are “moving from a spectator moment to an entire aesthetic, vibe and identity,” including increasingly influencing everything from hair styling to make-up and food choices.

“The data shows a clear cultural shift,” Pinterest wrote in its report. “People are borrowing the iconography of sport—team colors, uniforms, bold graphics, and national pride—and incorporating them into everyday choices. On Pinterest, that looks like ‘off-duty’ staples styled as statements, performance pieces elevated into going-out looks, beauty that mirrors game-night intensity, and food spreads that feel made for a crowd.”

The platform added, “In short: Fandom is becoming a global lifestyle signal.”

Based on an analysis of the search habits from over 600 million monthly active Pinterest users worldwide, Pinterest’s research team identified 10 broader trends around the intersection of sports and culture: 

1) Power Players: Pinterest said, “Female athletes are going beyond dominating scoreboards and are shaping the culture around them. Standout sports moments are turning into everyday inspiration across lifestyle, fashion, beauty, wellness and self-expression, with women athletes now a major engine of influence and discovery. In addition to tracking highlights, people are searching their favorite athletes’ full aesthetic on Pinterest, from game-day energy to off-duty style and beauty routines. That influence extends outward as well: sideline celebrity looks fuel aspirational boards, while a new wave of hybrid athlete-turned-creators drives interest that blends performance, personality, and off-court content.”
