On the heels of an April 2026 announcement that German bike maker Riese & Müller will exit the U.S. market next month, the company is now reporting that Co-Founder Heiko Müller will also step back from management at the end of July.

Müller’s departure reportedly ends the operational responsibility of the founding generation, following Markus Riese’s step back from management in 2022.

“When Heiko Müller and Markus Riese founded Riese & Müller in 1993, they combined the passion of re-imagining bikes and inspiring people about innovative mobility,” the company said in a media release. “Over three decades, an internationally successful company grew out of a student project. The company now ranks among the leading manufacturers of premium e-bikes and cargo bikes with around 700 employees and 1,400 dealers worldwide and is setting the standards for sustainable mobility.”

It was said that Heiko Müller’s vision and forward-looking approach shaped the company, none more important than the early decision to focus on e-bikes.

“Still to this day, the spirit of the two friends continues to shape the values of Riese & Müller,” the company stated

“I look back on incredibly eventful years,” commented Müller. “Riese & Müller has always been far more than just a company to me. It was an opportunity to work with great people to transform ideas into reality and to contribute to more sustainable mobility. A new era with new tasks is just starting for me. As an active shareholder, I will remain closely connected to my life’s work. I will focus on lasting development and thus on safeguarding our family-owned company at our site in Germany.”

As CEO and a company shareholder, Dr. Sandra Wolf will chart the course for the future, with overall responsibility for Riese & Müller and, in this role, represent the family-owned business within the management. Commencing August 1, Wolf will also be supported by an additional managing director.
